Herblore training

Herblore training usually involves making potions which can only begin after completing the Druidic Ritual quest granting the player level 3 Herblore. To make a potion, the player will have to gather the required ingredients, usually a herb of some sort along with a secondary ingredient, and use them on a vial of water, blood, or coconut milk.

The fastest way to train Herblore is to add secondary ingredients to unfinished potions. If the player banks fairly quickly after each inventory of potions, they can expect to make around 2,500 potions per hour.

A profitable, although slow method to train Herblore is to clean grimy herbs.

Completing Jungle Potion, Recruitment Drive and The Dig Site quests will elevate a level 3 Herblore to level 19.

Making potions[edit | edit source]

The most efficient way to gain Herblore experience is to buy base and secondary ingredients from the Grand Exchange, and combine them into potions. This can be very expensive and requires a lot of capital to buy the supplies needed. The fastest Herblore experience is gained by simply making potions that offer the highest experience per hour; however, some slower options can be notably cheaper and should be considered if the player seeks to save money. Some options may also require a lot more capital than others, and might be inconvenient to do for players with less capital available.

Amulets of chemistry can be used when training Herblore with potions worth more than the cost of 1 amulet per 5 doses, if the player is willing to put the effort of equipping a new amulet when the last one breaks. This decreases experience rates slightly, but can potentially save a lot of money on the way to 99. For example, using this amulet when making Saradomin Brews slows experience rates from 450,000 experience/hour to approximately 410,000 experience/hour.

The options that are considered viable in terms of cost and ingredient supply are listed below. The table assumes 2500 standard 14 x 14 potions and 27 x 1 (such as stamina potions), 2330 serum 207's, 2166 super combat potions, 4583 anti-venom and extended super antifire potions, and 1220 anti-venom+ are made per hour, and the finished product is sold after being decanted into a 4-dose potion (if applicable). "Cost/XP" means how much money is needed for the supplies alone (when not selling the finished product) per experience.

Making Tar[edit | edit source]

An alternative, potentially cheaper method of training Herblore. Requires fewer clicks to maintain activity compared to potion making, as twice as many actions are performed before banking and the time each action takes is longer.

XP per hour is calculated at approximately 78 inventories fully processed per hour. Depending on bank efficiency, actual rates may be less.

If planning to train Herblore by making tar, it would be wise to buy or stockpile Swamp tar in advance. The buy limit of swamp tar is only 13,000 which is only enough tar to last approximately half an hour before running out.

Herb cleaning - AFK option[edit | edit source]

Cleaning grimy herbs is a slow but simple method to training Herblore. Since the Update:A Porcine of Interest, cleaning grimy herbs automatically cleans all herbs in the inventory.

Overall, if you are willing to commit the time, cleaning herbs is a much more cost-efficient method to gain Herblore experience. It's also one of the most AFK methods of training herblore.

The following rates assume you are cleaning 5,000 herbs per hour, which is conservative. This is fairly easy to achieve using the double speed cleaning method. A faster player can expect to double the rates in this chart.
