Method description[edit | edit source]
To achieve the most optimal experience rates, players would want to drop the caught fish, instead of banking.
Also, net fishing in Draynor Village makes banking fast and easy. Beginners might also want to bank for cooking, eating or selling, making the most of their time.

Method description[edit | edit source]
Fly fish trout at either Barbarian Village or Lumbridge. Once you have reached level 30, you will begin catching salmon and can expect to receive between 25,000 and 50,000 Fishing experience per hour. The best experience rates will be reached using the "powerfishing" method; dropping the caught fish, thus removing the time spent banking and increasing the time spent fishing.
A short trip from Barbarian Village north to the Edgeville bank can be worthwhile when collecting salmon. This reduces xp/hr greatly.
Even past level 40, "powerfishing" raw trout and raw salmon is the best free-to-play method of training Fishing all the way until level 99.
Methods with the highest profit[edit | edit source]

Stay at the fishing spot until the inventory has filled up, then go to the nearest bank to drop off the caught fish and return to the fishing spot. For example near Draynor Village or Al Kharid.

Method description[edit | edit source]
Fish raw lobsters at Musa Point. To bank the caught raw lobsters, use the boat to travel to Port Sarim, costing 30 gp one way. In Port Sarim, walk to the docks with the monks and use the bank deposit to deposit the raw lobsters.
If you have completed both The Corsair Curse and Dragon Slayer I, you can also use the Corsair Cove Resource Area to avoid paying the fare back and forth to use the deposit box.
Level 50-99 – Raw swordfish / Raw tuna[edit | edit source]

Method description[edit | edit source]
Players can also choose to drop the raw tuna (59 each), since they are worth a lot less than raw swordfish (369 each). This will reduce the time spent banking, thus increasing the experience per hour rates.
Equipment[edit | edit source]
Depending on the method, Fishing uses one or two types of items; divided into tools and consumables. Consumables are used up at the rate of one item for each fish caught and are stackable, while the equipment is non-stackable and reusable.
